If this in not appropriate, please move to where it belongs. I am doing research on all USS BOSTON shipmates that served in Vietnam. If you served in Vietnam, I would like you to contact me. What I need is : Year (s) you were in Vietnam If you have a presumptive disease due to AO exposure If you have applied for benefits and are receiving benefits If you have applied for benefits and have been denied. Thank you so much for this information. We are also contacting other ships sites for this information, so if you served on more than one ship, you can give me that information also. He was on the Boston from 1966-1968. He died in 1992 of cancer and I have been fighting, sorry wrong word, discussing Larry's case with the VA since 1993 with absolutely no luck. Edgar has been a real inspiration for me. My VA rep. did not even know what Blue Water or Brown Water were??? Kind of scary.?? Oh well, I sure hope you have had better luck than I. We are "Era Veterans." Now I wonder if I really saw the lights of Haiphong and who was shooting at us? Possibly UFO's?

Lucy I do most of Carl's work. 4 years ago he had a meningioma removed from his brain and I know exactly how "discussing" with the VA is like beating your head against the wall. Edgar Rosas is a wealth of information and has sent a buddy statement for us on Carl's claim with the VA. We have had trouble getting in touch with some of the shipmates Carl remembers. He remembers an Antonnetti, Bill Glover, Gary Fairchild, William Marshall, Mike Moon, and Ronnie Wright. Carl also did some boxing on the BOSTON and did some cooking for the Chief's mess. What is amazing is there are 3 people we know that have been granted benefits based on the BOSTON being in Da Nang Harbor (Glin Eden, Jerry Castleberry and Edgar Rosas), yet his claim has been denied. We are afraid there are so many shipmates that are no longer with us these days. We joined Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association to help in the fight for benefits for the BWN veterans. I think everyone on the BOSTON that has gotten sick from exposure to herbicides and has not received benefits are getting shafted from the VA/ SO if anyone knows these guys and can help get us in touch with them, I would appreciate it. OR if you have first hand knowledge that the BOSTON was in Da Nang Harbor or exposed to herbicide in some way and would send a buddy letter, it would be appreciated. I left CAG-1 prior to the Westpac. I was transferred and was in the gulf, on the carrier USS Bennington, CVS-20 at the same time Boston was. Saw her on the horizon several times. Returned to the VN coast on a 1052 class DE (later FF) in '71. Don't know if thats of any use to you. Rick Johnston, ETR3 1965-66.

SO you were both on the ship at the same time. You must have been on board when they were searching for the bombs that were lost and when he was gettting his "education" in all those exotic places. Have you had any presumed diseases that the VA recognizes from exposure to Agent Orange? Right now there is a bill in the Veteran Affairs Committee that will help Blue Water Navy Vets exposed to AO. That bill is HR 2254 and we are working hard to get the congress folks signed on to support it, get it out of the House and a companion one set up and working in the Senate.
