I continue my opposition to the meanspirited divisiveness preached by extremists on both ends of the political spectrum - if Americans don't start working together, we're never going to fix us.

I'm hearing more talk about breaking up the United States, like Chuck Norris's recent comments about running for president of Texas - but please
correct me if I'm wrong, didn't we try that back in 1860 without much success?

As long as there are political parties, each with its own agenda, there will always be divisiveness...I believe that pols have forgotten that they are
"American" and that the only answer is Democrat or Republican. The fact that everything hs to be Politically Correct these days doesn't help
matters any, either.
I'm sticking with what I think I meant to say. |

Maybe I'm nuts, but isn't it far more important to be Americans than to be democrats or republicans? I served on submarines from 1975 to 1985 - I
don't recall a single political argument with a sailor - and I was writing things down at the time in a daily journal. We were all Americans, then. A
man's politics were like his religion - his business.
The day our elected representatives start actually working for America - and all Americans - instead of whatever clusterfork they've been weaving in D.C. now for decades - will be the best day of my life. D.W. |

Don...I agree with you 100%,it really kind of bothered me during the campaigns when the talk was about the first "African American" getting elected
as President,or the first "Black President"...the first and utmost thing is that he is an AMERICAN..! My parents were Danish and Polish, but I never
say I am a Polish American or Danish American...nether of my parents ever even saw Europe so how can I say I am such and such,I was born in AMERICA and I guess
that makes me an AMERICAN just like I would bet everyone of us is.Nobody I know can say their parents came from Europe or Asia or Africa so where do we get
this 'distinction' from? We as AMERICANS should do everything we can to promote peace and properity for OUR country and all of OUR Co-AMERICAN
neighbors...we are all in this together and like being on a ship,if we don't work together we are heading for a wreck, especially in the stormy sea's
that we are in at this time. I believe that our Congress should quit playing the "name game" and get to WORK and figure out how to "FIX
IT!" DO their job and quit Bitchin!

They can't... too much money from their "supporters" (read: purchasers, buyers, whatever) involved.
Show me a politician, any poilitician, who does not take money from the fat cat companies and I will show you a politician out of a job. I'm sticking with what I think I meant to say. |

First time in history America voted for the color of the candidate and not the qualifications.
Now that history has been set it is time to stop the BS and get to work. |

"we are all in this together"
I could not agree more, shipmate. I am fond of saying, "The American Eagle needs both left and right wings to fly." I think we all have "leftist" friends - and I think we all have "right wing" friends - they all stay my friends as long as I can continue to bust their chops - and they, mine.

"First time in history America voted for the color of the candidate and not the qualifications."
Not me - like a lot of Americans, I voted against McCain/Palin more than I voted for Obama/Biden. While 2000-2008 may have been a "republican" White House, it was far from being "conservative" - at least as I understand the concept of "conservative." (What was it? 13 billion dollars "unaccounted for" in Iraq?) The policies of the last eight years weren't working in too many areas - well, except for rich people's Swiss & Offshore bank accounts - yet McCain/Palin 2008 would have been a continuation of many of those same republican policies. Now, give me McCain from 2000 - that was the man to vote for. But not Palin - sorry, she did nothing for me - same as Biden.
