I came across this picture and got to thinking that there wasn't a heck of a lot of difference between those swabbies back then and when we were weaqring
the white hat and bell bottoms.

You know, it looks like he has his cigs rolled up in his left sleeve, like we occasionally did.
I don't think they can wear that uniform---what was it, tropic white Bravo or something like that??---tee shirts, white hats and white pants---any more. Most likely because of the "diverse" crew complement now.

Also it looks like a tattoo on his left arm.
Yeah, now it is all the "cammy" uniform.....but I guess that that uniform would be necessary in hand to hand combat in a radar room or conductiong "escape & evasion" from space invaders in an engineering space... sad. In my opinion, there are no more "sailors" They are all "seagoing soldiers", or would the proper politically correct term be "seagoing military personnel"? But I guess that now that everybody aboard ship have luxury living spaces, there is plenty of closet space to hang the uniforms...no need of rolling them up an stuffing everything, except the pea coat (do they still have them?) into one of those tiny lockers. *****WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO OUR NAVY?****

Today The Great One and I would probably be arrested for some of the stunts we pulled off in Subic. And maybe Edgar as well. But I don't kiss and tell
unless there's Pizza involved.

Yep Subic Bay. The place where the Great One Edgar and myself never were.

Wouldn't bet against those old timers being Civil War vets.
And I'll bet it wasn't pleasant when that 8 inch gun went off with no shielding around it. I think I posted some pictures of her 8 inch guns tht are mounted ion some park on the Pacific coast.

History my friend. The guys who defended the country long before we came along. Great pics. I like the B&W.

In the picture of the 'oldest' blue jackets, the man on the left in the front row looks an awful like our buddy "Edgar" all though he has a
cat in his lap!
